Why every home gym must have a TRX Suspension Trainer

Spread the love

A large part of the World have been under a lockdown recently and is just beginning to re-open and people who were used to being regular in exercising in commercial gyms whether on their own, or in group classes or with a Personal Trainer at a gym/studio have felt a need to have some tools or equipments to exercise at their homes.

Although, Bodyweight or Callisthenics exercises are very effective and useful and most people under the lockdown have been doing at their homes, but I feel that if you add a TRX Suspension Trainer to the mix, your overall Strength and Conditioning will get a big boost as I have seen it with my own fitness and that of hundreds of clients I have trained in Australia and in India.

Let me share with you how I came to learn about TRX.

After I completed my Fitness Certifications (Cert 3 & 4) in Australia in 2010, I started thinking of how will I train a client outdoors apart from bodyweight exercises. Then I remembered how we were taken to a fitness studio next to the Fitness Academy in Melbourne, from where I did my fitness certifications. That studio had a very few equipments or in other words was a minimalist studio but at the same time, the Instructor there showed us a lot of exercises using just the TRX Suspension Trainer. My eyes couldn’t believe how easily the Instructor there was able to transition from one exercise to another covering upper body, lower body and core. This tool is truly amazing, I thought to myself. So compact, versatile, lightweight and can be used anywhere; indoors in a gym, at home in a room, outdoors in a park, on a ship, on a battle tank, virtually anywhere. So that’s why I chose this tool to train myself, my friends, my PT Clients and the Clients in my TRX group classes in Melbourne, Australia.

Over the years in Melbourne, Australia, I feel blessed to having trained clients of all fitness levels and of all age groups and in different settings, commercial gyms, corporate gyms, in my kung fu teacher’s martial arts academy, in the park and at my home gym in Melbourne using this amazing tool called TRX Suspension Trainer. You can watch one of my videos training my different Australian Clients below in the promo video I made for our fitness centre in India.

Later in New Delhi in 2013, I was invited by the Manager of Anytime Fitness Gym to conduct a Suspension Training workshop for the Fitness Instructors working in different gym franchises of Anytime Fitness. You can watch the video of that workshop here.

Let me share some history behind how TRX got invented in the US Navy Seals.

In 1990s, Randy Hetrick, a former Navy Seal while deployed for a mission, used his jiu-jitsu belt and some parachute webbing to create the 1st version of TRX (Total Resistance eXercise), the Suspension Trainer which he could use to do a number of exercises to improve his overall fitness. Randy, later formed his company Fitness Anywhere Inc. and improved on his TRX designs which became popular in the Fitness Industry. Over the years, TRX has become one of the most effective Functional Training tools today.

When we humans move in our daily lives or sports, we do so in three planes of motion, forward back fashion ( Sagittal Plane), sideways fashion (Lateral Plane) and rotational fashion (Transverse Plane). A tool like TRX is perfect to help us move and get stronger in all these 3 planes of motion.

How easy and effective it’s to do movement patterns of Push, Pull, Lunge, Squat, Rotate and Plank is shown beautifully in this video by Chris Frankel, TRX Head of Human Performance. You can get an amazing and a very effective full body workout using this hand held gym, called TRX in just 20-30 minutes. Checkout this video.
